Delivered in partnership with The Consulting Room, the Programme will take place over 16 weeks and will provide business owners with knowledge and support on how to grow their business.

Artists Sought to Help Bring BookBench Buzz to Newark

Ten brightly decorated benches will adorn Newark this summer and local artists are now being offered the chance to design them. District Council announces its plans to encourage more empty homes back into use.

Newark and Sherwood District Council’s cabinet has passed proposals to widen the scope of the Empty Homes Council Tax Premium to include homes left empty for more than 12 months. This premium was originally introduced for homes that had been unoccupied for two or more years, to encourage property owners to empty homes back into use.

Holocaust Memorial Day to be marked by the laying of wreaths at the Irena Sendler Statue in Newark

Saturday 27 January is Holocaust Memorial Day in the UK, it is the anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp in 1945. To mark this poignant day, when communities can get together to remember all victims of genocide, Newark and Sherwood District Council will be hosting a wreath laying at the statue of Irena Sendler alongside the Polish Consulate and Newark Town Council.

Residents affected by Storm Henk can book a FREE bulky waste collection for flood-damaged items

Newark and Sherwood District Council is continuing to clear and clean up areas affected by Storm Henk.

Over the past few days, the District Council’s Environmental Team have been working to clean roads and footpaths of debris following Storm Henk and have been able to tackle the vast majority of areas affected. The waste crews have also been out and collected a number of bins that had to be missed due to the flooding.

District Council continues to deliver support to flooded communities

Work continues to support local communities suffering the effects of Storm Henk. Newark and Sherwood District Council officers are out in some of the worst-affected areas today with teams visiting homes on Kelham Road and Carlton Ferry Lane as well as the villages of Gunthorpe, Lowdham and Collingham.

Give your feedback on the plans for Sherwood Avenue Park

In May 2023, we worked with Newark Town Council and consulted with the public and other key stakeholders, such as local schools, college students and those living within proximity of Sherwood Avenue Park, on what they would like to see at the park in the future.

The outcomes of this consultation have informed the plans for the development of Sherwood Avenue Park. 

Urgent flooding update from Newark and Sherwood District Council

Although flood waters are subsiding in various locations around the district, we are now aware that there are significant flooding risks to properties as a result of rising water levels at the Torksey Gauge. The levels have reached a point at this Gauge where it will impact our communities in the north-west of the district. 

Council urges residents to stay safe during widespread flooding

Newark and Sherwood District Council is encouraging residents to stay safe during the severe flooding caused by Storm Henk. It is urging residents not to travel unless absolutely necessary and has set up a place of safety for anyone whose home is flooded or at risk of flooding. Information and advice has been provided in the Breaking News section of its website and support, advice and information are available by calling the District Council on 01636 650000.
