Housing rents are set annually by Newark and Sherwood District Council to formulae set out by national Government, which take into account a number of factors.
These factors include:
The average weekly full-time manual earnings in Nottinghamshire
The value of the property in 1999
The number of bedrooms
The national average for rents
Although rents can be increased by inflation, the Government sets limits on the amount rent can be raised in a year and the aim is to match Council and Housing Association rents for similar properties by 2017.
Tenants are given at least four weeks’ notice of any change in the rent for their home.
