Council House Build Programme Phase 2 - Newark and Sherwood Homes have now completed their Phase One and Phase Two of the Council's New Build Programme thanks to HCA Grant .
Newark and Sherwood Homes Business Development Team worked in partnership with Newark and Sherwood District Council in a second 100% successful bid for grant funding of £1,025,839 from the Homes and Communities Agency to build a further 26 new affordable energy efficient council homes across a further 4 sites in the district. The two successful bids together will see a total of 52 new council homes built across 8 sites in Newark and Sherwood.
The four further sites where development started in September 2010 and are all now completed:
- Sycamore Close, Newark - 5 dwellings: 5 x 1 bed apartments
- Grange Road, Newark - 5 dwellings: 3 x 2 bed houses and 2 x 2 bed bungalows
- Stafford Avenue, Balderton - 9 dwellings: 3 x 2 bed houses and 6 x 1 bed apartments
- Norwood Gardens, Southwell - 7 dwellings: 3 x 2 bed houses and 4 x 1 bed apartments
Phase Two of the New Build Programme has seen a further 26 new homes which are a mix of houses, bungalows and apartments provided by the Council in partnership with its Arms Length Management Organisation, Newark and Sherwood Homes.
All four schemes have been constructed by Apollo Group with the majority of subcontractors being local. Training and apprenticeship opportuniites had been made available to local people. The completed properties have all been built to the following high standards:
- Code for Sustainable Homes Level 4
- Lifetime Homes
- Building for Life
- Homes and Community Agency Standards
- Considerate Constructors Scheme
- Construction Skills Certificate Scheme
- Local Labour and Training initiatives
This has meant those on the council housing register have had an opportunity to be offered a quality new home at a rent they can afford, with lower energy bills and a reduced impact on the environment.
Sycamore Close, Newark
This scheme at Sycamore Close was the first sheme in Phase Two of the New Build Programme and completed in July 2011.
Grange Road, Newark
This scheme, which will be known as Prebble Close was the second scheme to complete in July 2011.
Stafford Avenue, Balderton
This nine property scheme, which will be known as Sheppard's Court completed 16 September 2011.
Norwood Gardens, Southwell
Norwood Gardens, which will be known as Town Mill Close completed 20 September 2011 and has marked the completion of Phase One and Phase Two of the Council's current New Build Programme.
